Very often patients are unable to have minor skin surgeries due to NHS funding and GP time constraints.

The minor surgeries offered by Ros Medics are:

  • Mole removal
  • Cyst removal
  • Lipoma removal
  • Keratosis removal
  • Skin tag removal
  • Wart removal
Why through Ros Medics?

The removal of the above lesions are generally no longer available through the NHS via GP practices.

Consultation is of paramount importance to ascertain the suitability of removal and mutual agreement with patient and clinician. An appoint would be booked upon agreement. Often the surgery can be performed within the consultation time. The surgery would be performed in a purpose-built room by an accredited medical practitioner.

The consultation would include past medical history, medication history, family history and revolve around patients general health. The patient will be encouraged to ask questions at this stage so that they can make an informed decision as to the nature of the procedure.

The procedure will involve use of local anaesthetic (numbing of the area to be excised) and in accordance with good practice guidelines, all the lesions will be sent to the histopathology department at the University Hospital of Wales to be analysed.

All of our clinicians are vetted by Dr Ros and her exacting standards. They are accredited, experienced practitioners. In most cases, Ros herself will perform minor surgeries (please advise at time of booking for service from Dr Ros)

During the consultation, Ros or an appropriate clinician will discuss general health, patient concerns and patient expectations and manage them accordingly. When it is mutually decided that the lesion in question is to be removed. The clinician will explain the whole procedure and any side effects/scarring that may occur. At this stage, you will be asked to sign a consent form. A consultation fee will still be applicable if a procedure is contraindicated.

The Procedure

Once you are happy that all your questions have been answered effectively, you will be asked to release your signed consent form to the clinician and you will be prepped for minor surgery.
During procedure, the area is cleansed using an antibacterial agent, the area will be locally anaesthetised by the use of lidocane. The infiltration of the anaesthetic will cause a localised stinging sensation. The anaesthetic generally wears off a few hours. The clinician can use a variety of techniques to remove skin lesions including excising, snipping and cautery.

You will then be advised to see your district nurse at your local GP surgery for the removal of stitches. Post-procedure, you may experience a degree of discomfort for which you can take simple analgesics such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. The excised lesion will be analysed by a local cellular pathology professionals. The results will be sent to your GP.

What to expect after treatment

Following any minor surgical procedure, it is highly likely that there will be bruising, bleeding and minor localised irritation. Scarring will occur and will usually fade in time but can be come darkened or raised depending on skin type, patient age and location. Infection is very rare but advice will be given post operatively.

Recurrence can occur with any type of lesion but the rate is higher with sebaceous cysts, lipomas and epidermal cysts. Your clinician will advise you accordingly during consultation.
